Comprised of cousins George Langford and Tom Van Buskirk are the Brooklyn and Los Angeles-based duo of Javelin. The act developed a reputation for a thrift-store-of-the-future-like sound, and as a result they’ve shared stages with Yeasayer, Sleigh Bells, Matt & Kim, Warpaint, Major Lazer, and they’ve rocked parties on three different continents. Their full-length debut, Hi Beams which Luaka Bop Records will release on March 5th, offers a refinement of their sound – there’s a clearer, more defined song structures instead of an amalgamation of hooks. “Nnormal” is the first single from the act’s debut effort, and it’s a club banger full of subtleties and odd angles that sounds as though it came from 2045. If you pay attention you’ll notice how they playfully borrow the melody from “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” for a couple of bars before it seemingly disappears.
Javelin will be touring to support their new effort and in the build up for the album’s release, they’ll be playing Shea Stadium on February 1st.
