Ishmael “Butterfy”  Butler, formerly of Digable Planets has a long developed reputation for creating an uncompromising hip hop sound – one that defies easy description or categorization. His current project, Shabazz Palaces, furthers cements that reputation – on the band’s most current release through Sub Pop RecordsBlack Up, Shabazz Palaces creates a trippy, kaleidoscopic, almost psychedelic hip hop – with odd syncopations and Butler’s ridiculous flow.

It seems that once he moved to Seattle, he got profoundly and wonderfully strange. Check out “an echo from the hosts that profess infinitum,” one of the most unique and strangest hip hop songs you’ll hear in recent memory.
