With their Matador Records debut, Impersonator set for a May 21st release, Majical Cloudz, the collaborative duo of Devon Welsh and Matthew Otto continue where their 2012 EP, Turns, Turns, Turns left off – that is eerily sparse, minimalist beats which put Welsh’s crooning vocals at the forefront. in some way, it bears a similarity to Beacon’For Now EP, which was co number 7 on this site’s Best of 2012 list. You’re forced to attention to Welsh’s lyrics, and in the case of “Childhood’s End,” the first single from their forthcoming effort, the lyrics describe the murder of someone’s father, and the aftermath it has on the narrator who witnessed it, and on everyone else… It’s a hauntingly affecting song that should make you feel – well, incredibly sad.
