The Winnipeg, Manitoba-based sextet, Royal Canoe have quickly developed a reputation for creating and writing music on their own terms. in fact, they’ve been known for lugging around hundreds of pounds worth of keyboards, mixers and pedals so that they can create their recorded sound live without relying on backing tracks. The mixers are stuffed to the gills with widely sourced samples and loving made original sounds… As a pop act they’ve been unflinchingly weird – they released two EPs worth of material last year, and as part of the Winnipeg Symphony’ Orchestra’s New Music Seminar, they arranged and performed material from Beck’s Song Reader, an album that the folks at McSweeney’s released as sheet music.

Roll Call Records will be releasing their full-length debut Today, We’re Believers on June 25th. Album title track, “Today We’re Believers” is the second and latest single from the band’s debut effort, and it’s a densely layered track with offbeat rhythms and harmonies that begs for repeated listens
