Formed in 2001, Japanther is the music and art project of duo of Matt Reilly and Ian Vanek. And in the decade of recording and performing, the band has developed a reputation for unusual live shows — they had one show in which they appeared alongside synchronized swimmers on the Williamsburg Bridge; another show featured BMX bikers doing tricks; and so on. Their latest effort, Eat Like Lisa, Act Like Bart was recently released through Recess Records.
“Stolen Flowers” is the first single from the new album, and it’s a breezy bit of punk that’s mildly reminiscent of the Ramones, in the sense that it’s melodic, accessible and pretty infectious. The official video was recently released as the band announced a summer tour to support the album. You can catch them in some of the following cities: San Francisco, CA; Oakland, CA; Chicago, IL; Bloomington, IN; Detroit, MI; Philadelphia, PA; July 11th at Rare Form in Brooklyn; Washington, DC; and a few other dates.
