The Chicago, IL-based trio of Beth Remis, Ben Babbit and Mark Trecka a.k.a. Pillars and Tongues have spent the last few years traveling and playing music in a wide variety of contexts. Naturally, their experiences have influenced their sound – in fact, on Knifelike on their forthcoming album, End-dances latest single, the song has a delicate, hazy trance-like feel.

The track is heavily layered and employs elements of Eastern and Native American songwriting – creating the fugue-like feel of the song. Lead vocalist, Mark Trecka’s sonorous baritone expressively croons bittersweet and ambivalent lyrics which sound as though they owe a debt to Kate Bush
