Gypsy Bells, Brianna Lea Pruett’s sophomore album will be released through Canyon Records on October 1st, and the album is informed by Pruett’s Cherokee and Choctaw heritage, her parents old vinyl collection, a collection that included the likes of Leonard Cohen, Emmylou Harris and others, as well as Preutt’s discovery of Neko Case and Mazzy Star.

“New Life” is the second and latest single off the album. The song is sparsely arranged – guitar, drums and Pruett’s voice, which has an uncanny resemblance to Neko Case’s at points. In any case, the song is a hauntingly gorgeous song that tells a story of a poor sharecropper’s daughter being seduced by a stranger who tells her that he’d give her a new life in California.

Sonically and thematically it seemed like the sort of song that should start off the day; or the sort of song to start off a brand new journey in one’s life right?
