Much of the Savannah, GA-based trio the Casket Girls’ early history seemed to occur by accident or by some spooky sense of happenstance. Ryan Graveface, of Graveface Records and of Black Moth Super Rainbow and Dreamend stumbled onto the Phaedra and Elsa Greene under a tree in Savannah’s countless squares singing strange songs with an autoharp, and he knew that he had to work with them.

Their sophomore effort, was originally written under some very strange circumstances – allegedly the album was written under what may have either been an acid trip of a very bizarre seance; in any case, the material dealt with chemical hazes and love gone sour.

Their third album. True Love Kills the Fairy Tale is slated for a February 11th release, and “Same Side” is one of the first singles off the new effort.  Sonically, it’s a slow-burning, trippy song with an eerie, chilly melody – in some way it reminds me a little bit of the Raveonettes but much darker, and a bit more anxious. Lyrically, the song deals with deeply unrequited love – but an unrequited love that has slowly gone sour.

The Casket Girls along with the Stargazer Lillies and Dreamend will be taking part of the Graveface Records Roadshow. The tour will have two NYC area shows – February 17th at Shea Stadium and February 18th at the Mercury Lounge.
