Based out of both Toronto, ON and Montreal, QC, the sibling trio of Alie, Jaclyn, and Trevor Blumas perform under the band name of Doomsquad, a rather appropriate name for an act that specializes in a unique brand of down tempo electronica – they use almost ritualistic-seeming chanting and repetition, guitar, flute and synth over stark, minimalist beats evokes an uneasy, deeply anxious tension that ripples and undulates towards the listener. And it’s the sort of tension that would likely happen when an ancient culture or tradition finds itself colliding against modern life, while also evoking the sort of music you’d expect to hear right after the collapse of civilization as we know it.

Check out “Disremember/Dismemberment,” the first single off the band’s forthcoming debut Kalaboogie which Hand Drawn Dracula Records will be releasing on February 25th. Strangely, as I listened to the track I thought of the T.S. Eliot’s “The Hollow Men” and of “The Wasteland” – basically of the world ending “not with a bang/but with a whimper."
