As a blogger, I receive an absurd amount of emails from artists, PR firms, labels, band managers and other industry folks. Increasingly i’m receiving emails from folks across the world and I have to admit, it’s humbling and incredibly flattering. And in one light, it makes my personal mission to cover music regardless of genre and country of origin much more important and perhaps much more necessary…

So recently, I received an email from the Bristol UK-based band Towns, and they’re making a lot of noise in their native UK as they’ve shared stages with the likes of Paul Weller, Spiritualized and others, and they’ve received praised from the likes of NME, who listed them as their new band of the year, the Guardian, and several other media outlets on that side of the pond. 

“Young at Heart,” the band’s latest single is a breezy, jangling bit of indie pop with a subtle, buzzing psychedelic tinge that brings several musical associations to mind and some of them are obvious and others not so much – namely, it fits comfortably in the mode of the Stone Roses, and oddly enough, a song i hadn’t thought about in several years, the Posies’ “Ontario.” And just like those acts, the Towns seem to have mastered crafting an incredibly infectious hook
