Let’s Be Still, the sophomore full-length effort from the Head and the Heart, debuted on Billboard’s Top 10 List and was number 1 on the Independent Label release list after it had sold some 43,000 copies in the first week of it’s release. And in these days of increasingly diminished returns for artists of all stripes that’s still a huge thing.
“Shake” was the first single from the new effort and it the song possess an agreeable 70s AM radio twang, complete with handclap-based percussion throughout. Lyrically, the song is a sweet love song tinged with a bit of regret, as though there’s the realization that all things must inevitably end, and that when the inevitable happens what’s left are lingering (and imperfect) memories. “Another Story,” the latest single from the album is similar thematically and sonically to “Shake” but much like the haunting video for the song, it suggests something that we all intuitively know – life can break your heart and yet somehow life also finds a way to push us forward, even when we don’t want to.
