Having just survived a potentially fatal van accident, the members of New Brunswick,NJ-based band Screaming Females showed up at for their set at the Hideout with a newfound sense of urgency and purpose, and they all recognized a need (and a desire) to record what many of my fellow critics have considered an unfettered, feral live set – for an album that they’ve creatively named, Live at the Hideout, which Don Giovanni Records will be releasing on April 8th.

The first single “Lights Out” seems to accurately capture a sense of a Screaming Females set – primal, unpredictable, explosive while owing a bit of a debt to the blues, metal, and – well punk. It’s blistering and furious in a way that seems rare for most rock bands these days.
