Turning Rocks, the latest effort from the Transatlantic husband and wife duo of Erika and Simon Angell, better known as Thus Owls is heavily inspired and informed both by Erika Angell’s childhood memories of her tiny village on Orust-an Island, just north of Gothenburg, Sweden, and the very true stories that her grandmother told her about the same village, and it’s people. So lyrically, the material has a novelistic level of attention to detail – in particular “How, In My Bones,” the latest single off Turning Rocks captures what feels like a fully-fleshed psychological portrait of it’s narrator.

And just as important, the song has a eerily haunting beauty thanks to Erika Angell’s gorgeous vocals – vocals that soar at the song’s hook and chorus while Simon Angell’s guitar work adds a very subtle psychedelic, bluesy feel to the proceedings. Interestingly, the song manages to feel both improvised and yet thoughtful and deliberate.
