Based in Stoke-on-Trent, UK in the county of Staffordshire, the teenaged producer Sunil Heera, better known by the moniker XO – and in a relatively short time, the young Heera has gained quite a bit attention from a self-assured and effortless production style that reveals a diverse array of elements such as drum ‘n’ bass, jungle breakbeats, eclectic drum programming, explosive flashes of synth and the like. in fact, his early singles “Golden” and “No Scrubs” have received love from the likes of BBC Radio 1, NME, XLR8R, Ministry of Sound, and Mistajam’s Speakerbox. And electronic artists such as T.Williams, Le Youth, Blonde and MNEK have also praised XO, championing him as a future star.
His latest single “What’s Luv” featuring Emma Corbett-Usher is a slickly produced bit of house music with XO’s already developed signature sound – explosive flashes of cymbals, rapid fire drums, and layers of glistening synths behind Corbett-Usher’s seductively soulful vocals.
Interestingly, the track bears a bit of a resemblance to the work of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs in the sense that the track possesses a huge room-rocking, club-friendly, extremely populous sound – it’s actually more radio friendly than you think.
