Across contemporary psych rock, there has been a tendency to craft sounds that turn back towards the 50s and 60s; however, the Minneapolis, MN-based Leisure Birds have strongly resisted that trend as their sound has been heavily influenced by 70s Krautrock, prog rock and the early synth experiments of Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk and others. And as you’ll hear on “Waveforms,” the latest single off the band’s forthcoming Tetrahedron, the track possesses a cinematic feel, as though it should be part of a futuristic, dystopian space-based thriller that bears an uncanny resemblance to Soft Metals’ impressive 2013 release, Lenses as the synths pulsate and shimmer.
