The Olympia, WA-based Milk Music, the Sonoran Desert-based Destruction Unit and the Tampa, FL-based Merchandise teamed up for a Record Store Day split 12 inch release, titled USA 13 which reveals the incredibly diverse of this country’s contemporary punk rock scene. Merchandise’s contribution to the 12 inch, “Figured Out” manages to make the band sound as though they owe a great debt to 80s New Wave – thanks to it use of shimmering guitar and plaintive vocals. Sure, it may not be the prototypical punk song but why should it be? If anything it’s punk because of it’s raw, emotional urgency.
