Shana Halligan, who is best known for her work as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of Bitter:Sweet and for collaborating with Thievery Corporation, and Chuck Wild, the producer and DJ behind Captain Planet and the Beatards have recently decided to collaborate together in an act that they’ve dubbed Shana and the Hooligans.
Their debut single “Get Gone” thematically speaking is a classic song that many of us will be more than familiar with – the “I’m over you and much better off without you” song, that you’d mentally dedicated to a manipulative, crazy ex-girlfriend or even a job that was humiliating and demoralizing. Sonically, the song employs the use of an old school soul vibe – plinking piano chords, Halligan’s soulful voice and handclaps which punctuate the song. In some way it bears a resemblance to several soulful white female vocalists such as Adele, Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Eilidh McKellar, and even CallmeKAT. If anything, the song is an uplifting song for those who have wanted to tell someone to go fuck themselves and be gone.
