We Are The Brave formed when singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jess Chalker began to collaborate with underground hip-hop producer and multi-instrumentalist Ox Why. The duo bonded over their shared love of 70s soft rock, 80s pop, 90s sci-fi, trip hop and indie electro pop and from those shared loves they were inspired to craft a sound that re-imagined both their shared loves and their influences.
The duo’s self-releaed EP Noctua gained both domestic and international acclaim thanks to singles “All Good Things Must Come To An End“ and ”Sparrow“ — both of which got love from MTV Iggy and MTV Buzzworthy. Continuing on the duo’s early success, they enlisted the help of producers such as Rich Morel, Nightriders, Culture Fires, the Dualists and Gnome to remix their biggest song to date “Sparrow” for their Sparrow EP (The Remixes) which was released this week.
Culture Fire’s remix reimagines a brooding and yet atmospheric track into a sensual and slickly produced house track, complete with layers of undulating, sinuous synths, throbbing bass and gently swirling electronics. And it’s done while retaining the anthemic feel of the song. But honestly, I can imagine this track as being one of this summer’s club anthems, thanks in part to the slick production value and Chalker’s incredible vocal.
