Let’s change things up a bit here. If you regularly follow this site, you know that New Orleans-brass and funk have a very special place in my heart – perhaps in a past live I lived down in New Orleans, huh? In any case, there’s only so much one can say about Rebirth Brass Band – namely that when Kermit Ruffins and the Frazier Brothers (Phil and Keith Frazier) formed the band back in 1983, they were at the forefront of the brass band revival, and have become a New Orleans institution along with the Marsalis family, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dr. John and countless others. Starting out playing on the corners of French Quarter, the band has toured the world, been nominated and won Grammy Awards, and have appeared on HBO’s Treme, among other things.
So the legendary brass band outfit will be releasing Move Your Body, the follow up to the Grammy Award-winning and critically applauded Rebirth of New Orleans on June 24. “Rebirth Groove” is the first single off the new album, and the track has a loose, free-flowing parade/party vibe that’s infectiously fun, thanks to a tight groove.
