i’ve said this before but I honestly think that Glasgow, Scotland, UK-based trio, the Amazing Snakeheads may well be one the best new bands this year. The band’s forthcoming album Amphetamine Ballads is the soundtrack to the desperate, bruised, broken and lonely souls in the darkened corners of nightclubs, dimly lit, smoke-filled, seedy bars and it manages to evoke  the dark recess of the human heart in a way that sounds reminiscent of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. 

Much like the band’s previous singles, “Flatlining,” and “Here It Comes Again,” the band’s third single “Nighttime" possesses a visceral sense of unpredictability and danger, with a towering, badass swagger – in particular think of Nick Cave’s "Red Right Hand” but ever more ragged and primal – the chords are ragged and sleazy, and they have a vocalist who sings his lyrics with an angry snarl that sounds like his vocal chords had been dipped in acid, coated in whiskey and burned with cigarette butts. With every song I’ve heard from Amphetamine Dreams, I think of the sleazy bars i’ve spent way too much time and money in, drinking and carousing with buddies who were up to no good.
