Although it’s early October, and many of us have just started getting our fall wardrobes out. Christmas is practically around the corner. Yes, the year has just flown by – and this has been the case for quite some time, too.

So why am I talking about Christmas? Well, the New Orleans, LA-based, Grammy and Billboard award-winning trumpeter and bandleader Irvin Mayfield will be releasing his forthcoming twelfth album, A New Orleans Creole Christmas through the renowned jazz label, Basin Street Records on November 11. And as the album’s title suggest, Mayfield with his backing band, The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra offers New Orleans jazz-based reinterpretations of familiar and beloved Christmastime tunes.

The first single from the album is a charmingly swinging, upbeat rendition of the old Christmastime standard “O Tannenbuam (O Christmas Tree).” Many of us have heard the original rendition countless times but I think that Mayfield’s rendition may be the rare Christmastime tune that you can actually dance to – and it should remind the listener of the joyousness of the season.
