Brooklyn-based model and vocalist Sandflower has started to blow up across the blogosphere with the release of her latest single “Do Whatcha Wanna (Boeng Tranga).” Produced by David Sisko and featuring the backing vocals of Dangerous Muse’s Mike Furey, the song is a swaggering. club banger that possesses elements of EDM, electro pop and hip-hop that’s not only a marvel of modern production, it evokes the streets of New York – or more notably Brooklyn. And in some way, it bears an uncanny resemblance to M.I.A.’s earliest releases in the fact that it’s a purposeful blurring of genre lines with a statement; granted, on this single it’s not as overly political but it’s much more personal as it’s meant to bolster those folks who are truly unique. You can almost picture people flossing, preening and stunting to the song’s room rocking, 808-style beats. Simply put, it’s a fun song.
