In the four plus years that I’ve run JOVM, I can tell you that I receive an enormous amount of emails from a variety of artists, labels and publicity firms from all over the world. And although the number of emails are overwhelming, I try my best often unsuccessfully to go through everything while maintaining a full-time job. In any case, I recently received an email from a rather mysterious act by the name of Fine Print – and from what they’ve told me in an email, they’re willfully being mysterious for the time being so that the music can stand for itself. Their latest single “About You” seemingly owes a debt to the likes of Air and Phoenix – breezy yet minimalist and shimmering electro pop comprised of swirling electronics, skittering percussion, Nile Rodgers-like guitar, sinuous bass and a seductive sax solo paired with sultry vocals and an incredibly catchy hook.
The track is coquettish and seductive but in an effortlessly adult fashion. This is the domain of grown folks, who for the most part, know what they want and how to go about getting it.
