Based in Hamilton, Ontario and Leeds, United Kingdom, the quintet of New Hands is heavily inspired by 80s New Wave and contemporary electronic dance music, and their first single “Strange Attractor” manages to bear a resemblance to both New Order and Depeche Mode, as you’ll hear instrumentation – guitar, bass and drums – layers of cascading and undulating synths paired with seemingly disaffected vocals. It’s danceable and yet has a somewhat menacing air.

The official video is the first GIF-based generative video. Each time a viewer views the video from New Hands’ website, a different randomized sequence is loaded from a database of over 900 GIFs, each of which was created from found home videos on YouTube. It creates an almost endless melange of images blending into the seemingly lived-in experience of familiar strangers.
