Huw Gwynfryn Evans writes, records and performs under the moniker of H. Hawkilne and along with producer and long-term collaborator Cate le Bon released two albums 2010’s A Cup of Salt and 2011’s The Strange Uses of Ox Gall. But his forthcoming effort, In The Pink Of Condition is his first full-length effort in a couple of years and his first full-length with his new label Heavenly Recordings. And according to Evans, the album which was recorded at Los Angeles’s Seahorse Sound Studios is an album of “strange pop” and from the album’s first single “Moons in My Mirror” that may arguably be one of the most accurate description of what you’ll hear – although somehow the song reminds me quite a bit of John Cale as the song is comprised of slashing, angular guitar, deceptively simple yet propulsive drumming paired with equally propulsive bass, and some playful world play sung with an ironically detached vocal style.
