Electric Cowbell Records APAP Showcase feat. Chop and Quench

The Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) hosts an annual conference, networking forum and market place for performing arts professionals – mainly those performing arts professionals who specialize in what we Westerners obnoxiously call “world music” and other internationally-based and inspired artists of various media. However, as a music journalist the most interesting part of the entire APAP conference is the showcases; after all, as a music blogger, it gives me a great opportunity to discover new artists and to catch familiar acts.
Electric Cowbell Records, a Brooklyn-based purveyor of all things funk, regardless of genre or country of origin hosted a showcase at Drom, which featured Chop and Quench. And what makes Chop and Quench so intriguing is that it includes members of the Fela! musical band performing some of Fela Kuti’s most beloved and popular songs – songs which actually appeared in the Broadway musical.
