If you’ve been following JOVM for some time now., i’m sure you’re more than familiar with the New York-based neo disco, critically applauded 17 member collective of Escort and their phenomenal vocalist and bassist, Adeline Michele.
2015 will be a big year for the Parisian born vocalist and bassist, as she’s launching a solo project, which actually was the result of years of collaboration with Producer/DJ JKriv, a member of Escort and the founder of Deep & Disco Records and Razor-N-Tape Records. The first single “Redo” owes a debt to 80s synth-based R&B and in particular, the song reminds me of I Feel For You-era Chaka Khan, Patrice Rushen and Evelyn “Champagne” King, if they were produced by Nile Rodgers but with slick, modern production techniques. In other words, the song is comprised of shimmering, cascading synths, boom bap drums, sinuous bass lines and pairs them with Adeline Michele’s effortlessly soulful and seductive vocals.
Overall, the track is a breezy and sensual bit of pop and just on the strength of this single and her work with Escort, I would imagine that Adeline Michele’s forthcoming solo effort, slated for a Spring release will be much anticipated – and will put her on the map as a solo artist.
