The Manchester, UK-based quartet of GIRL FRIEND has seen quite a bit of attention as they’ve received praise form The Guardian, The Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine, Clash and others, received airplay from XFM and Amazing Radio for music that thematically speaking is largely obsessed with passion, desire and have characters in the midst of profound internal conflict; the material reportedly portray characters who are consumed by their own vanity and are either maladjusted or incorrigibly hedonistic. Thematically, the material is particularly British – and may remind some folks of some of Morrissey and The Smiths but paired with sleek, sensual. synth-based dance pop, as you’ll hear on the quartet’s latest single “You Lead The Way.”

“You Lead The Way” may be one of the more seductive songs i’ve heard in the past few days as the desire and longing at the heart of the song are palpable – the sort of desire that would make you shamelessly willing to submit to the desires and whims of another, and it does so in a way that’s extremely reminiscent of 80s synth pop – but with a extremely modern slickness.
