As I’ve mentioned a few times on this site, things have been busy in the JOVM world with a lot of live shows over the past few weeks. At the end of last month, I was at the unofficial home office of Brooklyn Bowl to catch an eclectic night of internationally based music that featured eKush, a self-professed e-cussionist who wound up playing one of the most unusual versions of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World;” Benyoro, who played the gorgeous and timeless sounds of Eastern Africa – or more specifically, Mali; and the New York-based salsa act Los Hacheros, who played a rather unique brand of salsa that occasionally employed the use of violin with the traditional instrumentation of horns, percussion and acoustic guitar.
