Baby’s All Right

If you’ve been frequenting JOVM since it’s inception about 5 years ago, you may remember reading about the Minneapolis, MN-based act, BNLX. Over the years there have been adjustments in the band’s lineup – they’ve performed as just the husband and wife duo of Ed Ackerson (guitar, vocals) and Ashley Ackerson (bass and vocals) with a drum machine and samplers; as a trio with David Jarnstorm (drums); and most recently as a quartet with the addition of Jim McGuinn (guitar) – and in that time the band has gone through a rather discernible change in sonic direction from buzzing and noisy punk rock to ethereal and dreamy shoegaze. (Check out their latest single “No Soul to Sell,” which I posted the other day, here:  http://www.joyofviolentmovement.com/post/118746469097/if-youve-been-frequenting-jovm-since-the-early.)

The Minneapolis, MN-based quartet recently joined Swedish shoegaze quartet, Les Big Byrd for two rather impromptu dates here in NYC. Interestingly, although the quartet made their first North American tour together this year, they’re actually a group of some rather accomplished musicians as the band features Joakim Åhlund (a member of Teddybears and Caesars), Nino Keller (a member of Caesars, The Slaves and Fireside),  Frans Johansson and Martin Ehrencrona. And it was an incredible night of shoeazer rock. Check out some photos from the show below.
