Meshell Ndegeocello may arguably be one of the most uncompromising, most original and most talented contemporary artist around, as she’s been credited as sparking the “neo-soul” movement with a sound that draws from hip-hop, rock, soul, funk, reggae and jazz in a genre-blending fashion, as you’ll hear on “If That’s Your Boyfriend, He Wasn’t Last Night,” which is probably Ndegeocello’s most swaggering, seductive song she’s released. And holy shit, girl can play. She’s playing this afternoon at Summerstage as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival and naturally, this had to be posted in honor of the performance.
