Just a couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the Philadelphia, PA-based trio Ecstatic Vision. Since their formation early last year the trio have developed a reputation for a sound that draws from a wild variety of influences including Krautrock, Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, Hawkwind, UFO, stoner rock, drone rock and trance rock, and as a result the trio have already toured with acts like Pallbearer, Black Lips, Hawkwind, YOB and Enslaved. “Don’t Kill The Vibe,” the latest single off the band’s soon-to-be released full-length debut is an intense song comprised of buzzing, acid-tinged droning guitar chords, thundering and propulsive drumming with a steady bass line that creates a forceful, motorik groove paired with chanted and howled vocals. Much like its preceding single “Astral Plane,” the new single manages to evoke an ancient tribal ritual performed near a bonfire; windswept desert roads, desert skies and surreal topography that’s reminiscent of Dali paintings; and of adventures and nightmares filed by hallucinogens and whiskey.
