New Audio: The Post Apocalyptic Sound of Alex Zelenka’s “Out of Touch” feat. VIRGO

If you’ve been frequenting JOVM over the better part of the past year to year-and-a-half or so, you’d likely be familiar with Elizabeth Ann Clark, a Mojave Desert-based filmmaker, classically-trained pianist and electronic music artist, who writes and performs under the moniker of VIRGO. Interestingly, her work has been compared by some portions of the blogosphere to artists like GrimesLittle Dragon, and CHVRCHES; however to my ears, her work has managed to sound much more futuristic than those comparisons.

Clark recently teamed up with Chicago-based electronic music artist and producer Alex Zelenka on “Out of Touch” and the single is comprised of skittering percussion, layers of cascading synths paired with Clark’s meandering cooed vocals to craft something that sounds as though it draws from Snap’s! “Rhythm Is A Dancer” In other words, it evokes a tense, apocalyptic future.
