Calgary, Alberta-based indie pop duo Sidney York began as a long-distance musical collaboration between opera singer Brandi Sidoryk and bassoonist Krista Wodelet. In their native Calgary, the duo has won over audiences with the use of instrumentation and arrangements more commonly found in the classical world. And although the duo’s sound has been compared to the likes of Regina Spektor and Feist I think you’ll find on “Dick and Jane” off the duo’s soon-to-be released EP, <3 that their sound is more playful and charming. It’s the kind of track that should put you in a good mood within the first few bars – unless you’re a terrible curmudgeon. (However, much like Feist these two ladies have a sound that I think will capture a lot of hearts – especially when their next album, drops sometime in 2014.)
