Dent May, a Mississippi-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist recently had his third full-length effort, Warm Blanket released through Paw Tracks. Although May had recorded most of the album’s instruments by himself, in a fairly DIY fashion, he enlisted some local musicians to assist him as he recorded the album’s material in a reportedly haunted Victorian house in St. Augustine, FL. On the album’s first single, “Born Too Late,” the track manages to possess a breezy psychedelica with infectious 80s influenced pop and house music hooks – but the cruz of the song is that it’s a sweetly sung love song that manages to be deeply sincere without a trace of irony.
The video which was shot in an around the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and shows the area to be both gorgeous and homey in the small town America sense. And throughout May will strike you as kind of goofy – in the same fashion of Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing.”
