During their cross-country tour, Washington DC’s the Funk Ark stopped in Boulder, CO’s KGNU studios for a live session and interview on their Afternoon Sound Alternative with Pat Nayalis. I’ve become a fan of the band, and I have to admit that I think they’re probably one of the funkiest contemporary bands in the entire nation – their latest release High Noon manages to bridge Latin Jazz, Afrobeat and traditional Jazz in a way that’s truly inventive… 

During this live session you’ll get a great sense of the band’s live sound as they play two new tracks at the beginning and end of the session – the last track titled “Ten Tigers” which I hope to hear live when they’re back in town on November 29th at Nublu. You’ll also hear a couple of live renditions of tracks from High Noon including “419,”  "High Noon,“ and "Rancho," as well as a revealing interview that will not only give you a sense of the live of a professional indie, musician in a large touring band but, also a look into the recording of their latest effort. Sonically, you’ll notice that there’s ample room for the musicians to really do their thing on the solos, and the songs are teased and expanded a bit while retaining some faithfulness to the recordings. It’s a studio session that’s as impressive as their latest effort.
