EmptyMansions founder and primarily songwriter, Sam Fogarino of Interpol wrote most of the songs for his side project/solo debut, snakes/vultures/sulfate while Interpol was touring to support their fourth and latest album. The lyrics were reportedly influenced by several things such as novelist Hubert Selby’s Sulfate, FX‘s Justified, as well as classic rock. With that in mind, EmptyMansions covered the legendary Neil Young’s “Down By The River.” EmptyMansion’s cover is possesses a creepy, unsettling vibe, a vibe that was always underneath the surface of Young’s original.

EmptyMansions will be touring to support their new effort, and it’ll include an April 27th date at the Mercury Lounge.
