Ennui, the brainchild of Pittsburgh, PA-based musician and producer Jim Doutrich has existed in variety of incarnations since 2004; however, their forthcoming album Telepathic Beat slated for a September 23 release through Mush Records may well be a rebirth for the project, as it continues Doutrich’s reputation for crafting infectious synth pop – the sort of synth pop that sounds as though it could have been released in 1985, thanks in part to tightly syncopated drum programming, shimmering synths, earnest vocals sung with a crooned falsetto and an incredibly tight hooks but with modern production as you’ll hear on Telepathic Beat’s first single Circles. And interestingly, in some way it bears an uncanny resemblance to Washed Out and others.
