Formerly a member of the Dallas, TX-based The Secret Handshake, Luis Dubuc started his most current project, Mystery Skulls back in 2011 with the release of the official video for his first single, “Amazing” through the Mystery Skulls Tumblr. At the end of that year, Dubuc released a 5 song EP which was creatively titled EP to critical praise, with listeners and critics praising the effort’s slick production values.
Dubuc’s debut full-length, Forever was released by Warner Brothers today and it features collaborations with the likes of the legendary Nile Rodgers and with pop vocalist Brandy. And from the album’s latest single “Ghost,” I think Dubuc will cement his reputation for a slickly produced sound that owes great sonic debts to 80s synth pop, Prince, Daft Punk and AVAN LAVA simultaneously – in other words, it’s a rousingly straightforward, crowd-pleasing party jam that manages to equally sound as though it were released in 1985 as it does today.
The official video is actually pretty fitting as it follows a dancing exorcist as he tries to banish evil spirits from a young girl, much like in The Exorcist but to funnier results.
