If you’ve been following JOVM for the past few months, you might remember coming across a post or two on the Allentown, PA-based quartet, The Yetis. Formed by a childhood friends, the band’s early days were spend covering The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys but much like countless other bands, they started writing material – material that bears a resemblance to the likes of Raccoon Fighter, as it channels 60s surfer rock, garage rock and rock. In other words, ganging guitars played through gentle washes of reverb, catchy hooks and sweet harmonies. Whereas their previous single “Little Surfer Girl” was a catchy surfer rock love song directed as the cute, beach bunny the narrator has wanted for the past summer, “Mysterion” has a narrator who is heads over heels over a rather mysterious woman, a woman who in the narrator’s eyes isn’t as mysterious as she purports herself to be – while channeling both The Beatles and The Animals. In some way, it sounds as though it could have been released in 1964.
