If you’ve been following JOVM since its inception, you may have come across several posts on herMajesty throughout the past five years; in fact, the band’s Images of the Vanishing Night EP landed on this site’s first Best of List that year, thanks to the EP’s wistful, melancholy air. Over the past couple of years, the New York-based band has gone through a number of lineup changes and as a result they haven’t released an album’s worth of material; however, the band has remained active through the release of a number of singles that have gradually (and at times, subtly) refined the sound that they crafted on Vanishing Night. With several of those singles, synths were replaced by horn, strings and backing vocals, which gave the band a much warmer sound.

The band’s last single “Crystals,” a song that also featured the additional guitar work of Fountains of Wayne’s Jody Porter, managed to bear a slight resemblance to Interpol’s “Always Malaise (The Man I Am)” and “The Undoing,” while capturing the inner thoughts and observations of its narrator in a rather novelistic fashion.  Interestingly, the band’s latest single “Days Turn to Night” may continue to cement the band’s reputation for a hauntingly gorgeous dreamy sound that manages to convey a deep-seated brooding – in some way,  the song manages to bear a resemblance to Roxy Music and to their fantastic EP.
