As I’ve mentioned a couple of times on this site, it’s been a rather busy summer season, and it seems that the bulk of my free time (which is quite rare these days) is spent desperately trying to catch up with all the various live music coverage I’ve done. Last month, I was at Summerstage to catch one of the most uncompromising, most original and arguably most underrated artists of the past 20 years or so, Meshell Ndegeocello, credited as one of the originators of the neo-soul movement,  perform as part of the month-long Blue Note Jazz Festival at Summerstage with Roy Hargrove, a trumpeter and composer, whose work possesses the same sort of flair and wit that was common in the bop era; and Gabriel Garzon-Montano, an R&B and pop leaning vocalist, whose sound reminded me of Jose James
