Photography: Ecstatic Vision and Creepoid
Mercury Lounge
June 23, 2014
Since their formation early last year,
the Philadelphia, PA-based trio Ecstatic Vision
have quickly developed a reputation for a sound that draws from a wild variety
of influences including Krautrock, Fela Kuti,
Sun Ra, Hawkwind, UFO, stoner rock, drone rock and trance
rock, and as a result the trio have already toured with acts like Pallbearer, Black Lips, Hawkwind, YOB and Enslaved. And just a few weeks ago, the
trio was in town (at the intimate Mercury Lounge in the Lower East Side) to build up buzz and to support their recently released and
truly excellent debut full-length effort, Sonic
Praise. Fellow Philadelphians, Creepoid were the night’s headliner and they
were touring to support their critically praised album Cemetery Highrise Scum, which was released earlier this year and bears
a resemblance to Sonic Youth and others.
