Live Concert Photography: Jennifer Silva at Rockwood Music Hall 2/16/20
Jennifer Silva is a Boston-born, New York-based singer/songwriter. Influenced by Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, Tori Amos, The Rolling Stones, Florence + The Machine and Alabama Shakes, the Boston-born, New York-based singer/songwriter has received attention for bringing a sensual and soulful energy to her live shows — and for lyrics that explore universal and very human paradoxes — particularly, the saint and sinner within all of us.
Silva’s debut EP was an EDM collaboration with DJ Sizigi-13 under the mononym Silva — but since the release of that effort, her material has leaned heavily towards singer/songwriter soul, pop with AM rock references. Her latest effort, the Reed Black-produced Bluest Sky, Darkest Earth was recorded at Vinegar Hill Sound and is available on every digital music platform.
Interestingly, Silva has collaborated with Leesta Vall Sound’s direct-to-vinyl live recordings series and was featured in a year-long photography project by Abby Moskowitz, whose “Women’s Series” will culminate in a book and art exhibit this Spring. Adding to a busy year, Silva is currently working on her forthcoming full-length effort, which is slated for release during the Summer.
I caught the singer/songwriter at Rockwood Music Hall perform a set of originals and one of the most soulful covers of Lead Belly’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” that I’ve ever heard. Check out photos from the set below.
