Live Concert Photography: Prateek Kuhad at Monophonics Studios 7/18/18
Prateek Kuhad is a Jaipur, Rajasthan, India-born, New Delhi, India-based singer/songwriter and self-taught multi-instrumentalist — and with the release of his 2013 debut EP Raat Raazi and his 2015 full-length debut In Tokens & Charms the Indian-born and-based singer/songwriter quickly earned national and international acclaim — he’s been hailed as “one of the country’s leading singer-songwriters,” by Rolling Stone India, earned Indie Album of the Year honors from iTunes, won an MTV Europe Music Award and won 1st place in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition a competition that has helped launch the careers of Goyte, Passenger and several others to global audiences. Adding to a rapidly growing profile, Kuhad has toured with the likes of Alt-J and Mike Posner, and has played shows in New York, Nashville, Austin, Singapore, Toronto and London, as well as Sydney and Melbourne, Australia — with some of those stops coinciding with festival appearances at Midem, SXSW, CMW, BIGSOUND, Music Matters and Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
Quietly released earlier this year, Kuhad’s latest effort, the Konrad Snyder and Peter Greenwald co-produced cold/mess EP was primarily written in New Delhi and recorded in Nashville, and the effort marks the first time that Kuhad has worked with outside producers, who aimed to accurately capture his sound — a blend of thoughtful and intimate singer/songwriter folk and lush pop ballads with a uniquely global perspective. Thematically, the album focuses on the varying stages of love — in all of its ecstasy and agony. “Relationships can be very dichotomous,” says Kuhad. “They can be comforting and amazing and chaotic and suffocating all at once, and I wanted these songs to capture those extremes. Every song has a color to me – I wanted each track to have its own visual identity so that the images and the music could all combine to tell the story of this collection. They all work together to tell a bigger story about love, heartache, angst, and conflict.”
