“Los Angeles” is the first single off the Los Angeles-based indie soul trio Memoir’s full-length debut, Fire In Me, slated for a spring release. The extremely percussive track has angular guitar, throbbing bass, and swirling electronics in the background – and features lead vocalist Dena Deadly seductively singing a love song about Los Angeles and about trying to make it big. Her voice reminds me quite a bit of someone like Alice Russell or ZZ Ward – effortlessly soulful. 

Lyrically, the song has some incredibly novelistic details – you can picture the palm and the citrus trees swaying in the wind as the song opens. And you can almost picture the song’s narrator walking past the Walk of Fame, and dreaming of their own star, and their name in neon lights…
