Musician and vocalist Maria Neckham was born and raised in Vienna, Austria and spent time in Amsterdam before she had finally settled in Brooklyn. Performing, recording and writing under the stage name of Milan, Neckham has worked with a variety of artists including Erykah Badu, The Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, Mesta Bish and others, and in some way the material on her forthcoming self-titled EP is influenced by the genre-bending of her career. In fact, the EP’s first single “ DK6” manages to pair Neckham’s gorgeous and extraordinarily jazzy vocals with skittering percussion, layers of clashing sinuous and angular synths and weird tempo changes that evoke the headiness of bop-era jazz mashed together with electronica and pop in a way that feels post-modern and yet makes total sense.
