New Audio: Elika Specializes in Fuzzy and Moody Shoegaze on Latest Single “Closer”

Brooklyn-based electro shoegaze act Elika initially began as a duo featuring founding members and multimedia artists Evagelia Maravelias and Brian Wenckebach in 2006. Over the last few years, Maravelias and Wenckebach have been prolific, writing and recording a ton of music that has begun to win the duo both national and international attention; in fact, the duo was handpicked to toured Asobi Seksu and Ulrich Schanuss, who has long championed the band and their efforts.

Recently, Maravelias and Wenckebach recruited Khaya Lou, best known for her time with Mahogany and Andrew Kwasny to further flesh out the sound that has won the band attention and praise. The new quartet’s latest effort “Girls, Be Serious” is a trilogy of related 7 inches that have been released individually with the last one “Closer”/”Watch Over Me” being recently released through renowned indie shoegaze label, Saint Marie Records. The A side “Closer
is a slow burning, atmospheric and moody song that meshes shoegaze with industrial electronica in a way that’s hauntingly cinematic.
