Motel Pools is a garage rock recording project formed by its creative mastermind, the San Francisco-based Chiara Angelicola, best known in indie rock circles for her work in Bird Call and features the backing work of her friends Alex Balderston, Dan Kalisher, and Kiel Feher.
The project can trace its origins back to demos Angelicola recorded in her Williamsburg, Brooklyn living room in 2011. The demos were stored on a hard drive until Angelicola relocated to her hometown and reached out to her friend Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio and Rain Machine to assist her by producing the material that would wind up comprising Motel Pools recently released self-titled EP — and Malone contributes guest vocals on Motel Pools’ furious, scorching cover of Butthole Surfers‘ “Human Cannonball.”
