New Video: Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings Soulful and Joyous Hanukkah-Inspired Original

If you’ve been frequenting this site, you’d know that Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings‘ latest effort, Holiday Soul Party was released last month to critical praise from the likes of Rolling Stone and The Guardian. And that shouldn’t be terribly surprising as the album is a collection of soulful and fun takes on holiday standards — such as an Ike and Tina Turner “Proud Mary”-leaning version of “White Christmas” –and some holiday-inspired originals including Holiday Soul Party’s latest single and video, “8 Days of Hanukkah,” which sounds inspired by The Jackson 5‘s “I Want You Back” and others.

Much like their rendition of “White Christmas,” “8 Days of Hanukkah” is an infectiously joyous song that manages to throw in a 3 bar playful nod to “Driedel, Driedel Driedel” while referencing the traditions and food of the holiday. I think I can go for some brisket and latkes myself . .

But most important: for those who celebrate, Happy Hanukkah.

Also you can still catch the incredible Ms. Jones and her Dap Kings, who are still on tour this month. Check out the remaining tour dates below.
